Volt Lite - the convenient folding ebike for city commuters

Volt, a London-based company, has launched the Volt Lite - a folding mid-drive electric bike. The innovative design combines the ease of folding with efficiency and comfort for urban travel. The Volt Lite, which weighs only 17kg and is equipped with a carbon belt that requires little maintenance, was designed to make urban commutes easier while providing a reliable ride.

The integration of different transport modes into daily commutes is one of the biggest challenges that city commuters have to face. Volt Lite is a folding bike that can be used to combine cycling with public transportation. The folded bike is 34 x 19 x 27 inches (86.36 cm x 49.53 cm x 69.85cm), which makes it a small size and easy to fit in most spaces for public transportation.

Weight of the bike varies depending on battery selection. The standard 252-Wh weighs approximately 37.5 lb. (17 kg), whereas the 378-Wh, which offers a range of up to 60 miles (96,5 km), is heavier at 39.7 kg (18 kg). Magnets hold the bike's aluminum frame together during transport for extra security.

Volt Lite is driven by a Bafang mid-drive motor that delivers 75 Nm (55,3 lb.ft). The pedal assist is up to 25 km/h (15.5 mph), which complies with local laws. A responsive torque-sensing feature makes it easy to ride in city environments.

Volt chose a Gates CDX Carbon Belt over a chain for its ease of use and maintenance. The choice of Gates CDX Carbon Belt drive reduces both noise and the maintenance requirements. The bike also includes a Shimano 3-speed hub, with twist grip shift, which allows for flexibility in different riding situations.

Volt Lite also features 20-inch wheels fitted with puncture resistant Schwalbe tires. It is equipped with Tektro disc brakes that provide reliable stopping power. LED lighting enhances visibility.

The hand-built Volt Lite is priced at PS2,899, or approximately US$3,695. It comes with the option of adding a GPS tracking device for extra security. The company says that the Volt Lite e-bike will be on sale from July. It also plans to extend sales outside the UK.
