פרטים

This piece of Canadiana is by Canadian Artist Rex Wood, one of Canada's most successful and sought-after illustrators. He contributed on a regular basis to popular magazines such as Maclean's and the Canadian Home Journal, and drew advertisements for many of Canada's leading companies. He painted one of the most iconic Canadian images of the twentieth century, The Macdonald's Lassie, used for decades by Macdonald Tobacco on their Export "A" brand of cigarettes. The portrait is of a pretty Scottish woman dressed in traditional garb and wearing the Macdonald of Sleat tartan. The model for this trademark was Betty Annan Grant (1914 - 2004), who posed for the portrait. The "Scottish Lassie", as she is affectionately known, was featured on nearly all of Macdonald's cigarette brands up until the 1970s, and remains on packages of Export "A" cigarettes to this very day.
